Using techniques like solar panels, geothermal heating, and energy efficient appliances, the home relies on no fossil-fuel energy sources. Constructed at just 3 percent above cost, the experience gained has allowed subsequent homes to be constructed at no extra building cost. O'Neil is now an advocate who speaks regionally about the cost and environmental savings of sustainable home building.
