The Valley View Independent School District (VVISD) in Valley View, Texas, is implementing $1.2 million in facility enhancements designed to improve operations, comfort and efficiency at nine district buildings. Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, will complete the work as a performance contract with the district. Schneider Electric guarantees that VVISD will reduce its utility costs by more than $52,000 annually when the project is completed in June 2010.

bomi BOMI Dictionary Merges with Web-Based FMPedia© Standardizing Building Industry Terms

BOMI will merge its 343-page Dictionary of the Built Environment, consisting of more than 4,500 terms, with the existing FMpedia, an on-line glossary for the facility management industry developed by the IFMA Foundation. BOMI's contribution will amount to a 300% growth in the number of definitions currently available through FMpedia. The format will allow viewers to comment on individual entries and will standardize definitions of terms used in the international building and facility management professions.

Annapolis, MD- In August 2004 the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) reported a conservative estimate that each year the US capital facilities industry loses over $15.8 billion due to “the industry’s continued paper-based business practices, a lack of standardization, and inconsistent technology adoption among stakeholders".
